DISCOVERING THE BEAUTY OF THE PYRENEES
JANET LYLE BA Hons
Charming French Ancient Watermill
artistically restored into 3 character cottages with inspirational
terraced gardens bordered by a tranquil stream, offering
fully inclusive breaks to artists of all abilities and non
painting partners. Hosted by Stuart and Kate who assure
a friendly and comfortable stay.
In our 2nd year Pyrenees Art Holidays objective is to give
students the opportunity to relax and be creative at their
own pace with the emphasis on enjoyment. The courses
are based on predominate features during the seasons giving
the opportunity for a broad range of interpretation, from
basic form and colour, too more complex approaches.
All levels of abilities are catered for in small groups
of no more than 7 with Janet on hand providing guidance
in a friendly encouraging way.
Each season presents an individual colour range, fresh greens
and yellows of spring through to the incredible autumn colours
of the vines and deciduous forests. The flora is unique,
having the largest range of wild orchids in France.
All providing inspiration in abundance.
Situated within the picturesque valley of the Lower Fenouilledes
foothills in the Pyrenees this tranquil location makes an
ideal base for artists. Whether on-site or at one
of the many beauty spots in the area offering stunning vineyards,
forests, gorges and historic Cathar Castles perched on rocky
outcrops. With the opportunity to wind down after a days
painting relaxing on one of our terraces or taking a stroll
around the attractive countryside.
This spectacular area of French is an artist’s paradise,
frequented by Picasso, Dali, Maillol, Matisse and was the
birthplace of Fauvism.
EXCURSION - COLLIOUREThe picturesque little town of Collioure, occupying an idyllic
site on two small bays, against the backdrop of the Pyrenean
foothills. It has much to offer, in terms of charm and amenities,
famous for its fortifications, church and royal castle.
Collioure offers narrow cobbled streets with colourful,
flower bedecked balconies and boutiques with inviting window
displays, its seaside promenade overlooking the brightly
coloured catalan boats and outdoor cafes. This little fortress
town has a very distinctive character not to be missed.

THE COURSES
Our weekly all-inclusive holidays are designed so that guests
arrive Saturday afternoon and get to know each other over
an evening meal before the group work starts on Sunday morning.
They will then run through to Friday evening, with the guests
departing Saturday (offering 5 days tuition/1 rest day with
excursion and 7 nights accommodation).
The courses will incorporate excursions to suitable painting
sites, to explore and express the colours and shapes of
the surrounding areas. There will also be the opportunity
to work traditionally or develop abstract interpretation.
Formally structured groups for all levels of students are
welcome. Janet will demonstrate techniques and guide students
according to their individual needs.
A basic Watercolour starter pack of colour palette, brush
and watercolour pad is provided within the cost of the holiday,
however if you have favourite brushes or media bring them
along. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you are in any doubt.
Our main media is watercolour although we are flexible to
your preferred requirements – please contact us as we are
always happy to try and accommodate your needs.
TUTOR – JANET LYLE BA Hons
Born in Beckenham, Kent. Janet moved to Cornwall with her
family and developed a keen interest in botanical drawing,
subsequently running a small craft business. Wishing to
explore the representation of her immediate landscape on
a larger scale Janet studied at Falmouth School of Arts
for a 4 years degree course. An understanding of “Local
Distinctiveness” has influenced her ever since taking ideas
from farmland, coastline and landscapes. Janet specialises
in Printmaking alongside her continued work with Watercolour
and drawing.
She has run all ability workshops for the National Trust
and taught Watercolour/drawing within the Adult Education
System. Janet has exhibited in many galleries across Cornwall
and the South of England including group shows as a member
of St Ives Society of Artists, Penwith Printmakers, Porthmeor
Print Workshop and Cornwall Craft Association. She is inspired
by geological structure of her local upland and many visits
to South West France. As a teacher, she creates a reassuring
friendly atmosphere.
